Peter Ballerstedt founds the Ballerstedt company
In 1962 Peter Ballerstedt founds a small plastic-processing company in Hamburg’s Barmbek district. He purchases his first injection moulding machine for DM 4,000 and installs it in the storage space of his father’s company, Hans D. Ballerstedt. Before long, he is able to deliver and invoice his first order for 50,000 rosettes for bannisters and discovers other companies in Hamburg in need of rosettes for staircase construction. The portfolio is soon expanded with the manufacture of moulds for spacers and sealing washers.
Collaboration with the Gottwald company in Bremen, a wholesaler of rosettes and corrugated light-transmitting panels, promotes further growth. Having outgrown the space in Bramfelder Strasse, the company rents a larger facility and office spaces in nearby Steilshooper Strasse.
